How to Select the Right Cat for You

There are certain things that you will need to take into consideration when trying to choose the right cat. The more time you take to think these things over, the better your chances will be of finding a cat that you will be happy with for many years to come.

Deciding on a kitten or adult…

One of the first things that you will need to think about is whether you want to get a kitten or adult cat. There is a big difference between these two, so it’s crucial that you take the time to make the right decision. While it’s true that kittens can be absolutely adorable and cuddly, they have a lot of energy and can be quite exasperating. An adult cat might be a better option for someone who doesn’t have a lot of patience or isn’t going to be home all day every day.

Consider the cat’s personality…

You will also need to consider the cat’s individual personality. Every single cat has its own unique personality, so you will most likely want to get to know the one you are interested in before deciding whether or not to take it home. While some cats are very mellow and relaxed, others are more hyperactive and eccentric. It’s very important that you take the time to review your cat options before deciding on a certain one.

Short or long fur…

Some cats have short fur while others have long fur. If you don’t want a cat that is going to shed all over the place, it might be a good idea to get one with short fur. Long fur cats also require more grooming, so you will need to take that into consideration as well; you might not want to spend a lot time and/or money getting your cat groomed to keep it looking nice over the years.

Consider your entire family…

Some people who have very young children might want to think twice about getting a kitten. Kittens are extremely fragile, and your young child might not always play with it gently. If you have a baby in the house but want a cat, you might want to think about getting an older one that isn’t a kitten. By considering your family when making a decision like this you will keep everyone happy.

Do you have the room…

Before you buy a new cat ask yourself if you really have the room for it at home, especially if you already have one or two. Those who live in a small apartment will most likely want to limit themselves to just one or two cats. The last thing you want is to bring a new cat home to an already-crowded living space.

As long as you consider the above-mentioned things when looking for a new cat, you should be able to get the right one to match your needs and the needs of your entire family. Getting a cat is definitely not a decision that should be made lightly.
